Forts and Palaces of Rajasthan showcase the architectural heritage of the state. Rajasthan forts and palaces have their own distinct place in the history and culture of Rajasthan and are the symbol of Royal Rajasthan. Today every city and town of Rajasthan, which were once a princely states, boasts of atleast one beautiful palace and a palace303  formidable fort. These forts and palaces give the region a distinct identity of its own. Many of the forts and palaces have been converted to Heritage Hotels which gives tourist the opportunity to experience the grandeur of Royal Rajasthan.

Golden Fort or Sonar Qila, Jaisalmer
Golden Fort situated in Jaisalmer is one of the oldest forts of Rajasthan. Golden Fort was built by Bhatti Chief Jaisal in the year 1156 AD. It is built on top of the Trikuta Hill and the fort is still home to the one fourth population of Jaisalmer city. There are many tourist attractions inside the fort campus such as Jain Temples, Havelis, Gadsisar Sagar Lake and Museum.

Amber Fort, Jaipur
Amber fort is an ideal example of Rajput passion for grandeur. Amber fort is located 11 km from Jaipur city on the Aravalli hills. Built in red sandstone and white marble, architecture of the fort is a living example of Rajput and Mughal style. Within the fort complex there are many attractions of tourist interest. Famous Jai Mandir with its world renowned Sheesh Mahal is located inside the Amber fort complex.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur is one of India’s largest forts and reminds of the royal past of the Rajput. Built in red sandstones, there are several palaces in the territorial boundary of Mehrangarh fort. The palaces are known for intricate carvings and sprawling courtyards. Founder of Mehrangarh fort was Rao Jodha, after whom the city is named Jodhpur. Beauty of this majestic fort attracts thousands of visitors every year from world over.

Junagarh Fort, Bikaner
Junagarh fort ranks among the most attractive forts of Rajasthan built in medieval period. Great preservation efforts have helped a great deal in keeping the beauty and grandeur of the fort intact. Built in the year 1588 AD by Raja Rai Singh, the fort is a rare example of a medieval period monument. Some of the attractions of the Junagarh fort complex are the attractive palaces, courtyards, pavilions and balconies. Major attractions of the fort complex are Anup Mahal, Badal Mahal and Phool Mahal.
